Free AI Background Remover: Photos and Video
Cut out photos and videos with AI: a transparent PNG costs 4 credits, video 2 credits a second, and the 25 free sign-up credits cover six images.
How Free Is It, Exactly?
Two common jobs: 30 product photos that need clean cut-outs before a shop launch, and a talking-head clip filmed in front of a cluttered bookshelf. The Spicy Studio Background Remover handles both. The free part is real, but small.
Every new account gets 25 free credits with no credit card. A photo costs 4 credits, so that's six cut-outs. Video costs 2 credits per second, billed for at least 5 seconds, so the free credits stretch to one clip of up to 12 seconds.
After that you pay in credits. A Spark top-up is €2 for 90 credits (22 photos) and never expires. The Basic plan is €10 a month for 600 credits (150 photos, about 7 euro cents each), and its credits reset every billing cycle. The same balance pays for every other tool and model.
What You Get Back
From a photo: a PNG with a transparent background. You can upload JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP files up to 50 MB.
From a video: an MP4. Leave the Replacement Background slot empty for a transparent result, or add an image and the subject is placed on it. Clips must be 3–15 seconds long and up to 50 MB (MP4, WebM or MOV).
Video editors don't all handle transparency the same way, so test one short clip (10 credits) before you plan a whole edit around it. If your editor shows a solid backdrop, use a flat green image as the replacement instead and remove it with the editor's chroma key.
Cut Out a Photo
1. Open the Image Background Remover and upload the photo.
2. Click Remove Background. If the job fails, the 4 credits are refunded automatically.
3. Download the PNG and zoom in on hair, fur and glass, the places where automatic cut-outs most often slip.
For a marketplace main image, put the PNG on a pure white (#FFFFFF) canvas in any editor. Amazon has more rules on framing and props, collected in Amazon Image Requirements & AI Product Photos.
Remove or Replace a Video Background
1. Trim the clip to the part you need. Billing rounds up to whole seconds, so 8.4 seconds is charged as 9 (18 credits).
2. Open the Video Background Remover and upload it.
3. Add a replacement image if you want one. Pick one with the same shape as the video, lit from the same side as your subject, so the person sits in the scene instead of floating over it.
4. Click Process Video. You'll be notified when it's ready; then download the MP4.
Typical costs: 10 credits for 5 seconds or less, 20 for 10 seconds, 30 for the 15-second maximum.
Start With a Source That Cuts Cleanly
The AI does the separating, but the source decides how clean the edge comes out.
Contrast: a dark bag on a light table separates better than a white mug against a white wall.
Sharpness: motion blur and heavy compression soften the outline. Use the original file, not a screenshot or a copy re-saved by a messaging app.
Light: soft, even light, without hard shadows falling on the background.
Video: keep the whole subject in frame, move the camera slowly and avoid busy moving backdrops such as screens or crowds.
Shadows: a cut-out usually loses the shadow under a product. If it looks like it's hovering, add a soft one in your editor.
Four Things to Make From a Cut-out
Shop listing: the PNG on white for the main image, then the same cut-out in a lifestyle scene from a product template (18 credits).
Thumbnail: cut yourself out of a photo and set the PNG on a bold color with large text.
Talking head with no green screen: record anywhere, then swap the room for a branded backdrop image.
A moving product shot: place the cut-out on a clean background and animate it in the Video Lab. Image to video AI explains which model to use.
What to Check in Any “Free” Background Remover
“Free” means different things on different sites. Before you upload a batch anywhere, ask:
- What exactly is free, and how much of it? - Is the free version the same tool as the paid one? - Does it handle video, and how long can clips be? - Does the trial need a card? - What happens to your uploads?
Spicy Studio's answers: 25 credits, spent on the same tools paid credits buy; video clips of 3–15 seconds; no card; and results private to your account by default. Uploads are processed by the third-party AI providers that run each tool, and section 8 of the Terms lets Spicy Studio use generated content for service improvement and marketing unless you opt out.
When Only Part of the Picture Has to Go
One object or person, such as a cable or a passer-by: use the Eraser, 8 credits per photo. See the AI magic eraser guide.
A logo, caption or date stamp on your own content: use the Watermark Remover, 4 credits per photo. See how to remove a watermark from your own video or image.
A larger file: run the photo through Image Upscale first (2K, 4K or 8K for 8, 10 or 12 credits), then cut out the bigger version.
