AI Background Remover for Images and Videos
Background Remover lifts the subject out of a photo or a short video and gives it back on a transparent background. Both models sit on this page and you switch between them in the control bar: the image model finds the subject by itself and keeps hair and fine edges, while the video model separates the subject frame by frame, so there is no green screen to set up.
A cutout is rarely the last step. Paint out a stray object with the Eraser first, place the transparent PNG on a white canvas for a shop listing, or turn one product photo into a whole set of angles with Multi-Shot. New accounts get 25 free credits, enough for six image cutouts.
How to remove the background from a photo or video
Choose image or video
Sign in, then pick Image Background Remover for photos or Video Background Remover for clips in the control bar.
Upload your file
Photos can be JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 50 MB. Videos can be MP4, WebM or MOV up to 50 MB and between 3 and 15 seconds long.
Add a new background (video only, optional)
Leave the background field empty to get a transparent MP4, or upload an image to put behind the subject, such as a branded backdrop or a plain colour.
Run it and download
The credit cost shows before you start: 4 credits per image, 2 credits per second of video with 5 seconds as the minimum. If a run fails, its credits come back. Download the PNG or MP4 when it’s ready.
Two models on one page
Image Background Remover
Detects the subject automatically, isolates hair and fine edges and exports a transparent PNG. 4 credits per image.
Video Background Remover
Edge-aware matting isolates the subject in every frame. Export a transparent MP4 or place the subject on an image of your own. 2 credits per second with 5 seconds billed at minimum: 10 credits for a 5-second clip, 30 for 15 seconds.
Prices and strengths of every model in the studio are on the AI Models page.
What people cut out
- Product photos for marketplace listings: export the PNG, set it on white and check that marketplace’s own image rules before you upload.
- Portraits and profile pictures that need a clean or coloured backdrop.
- Logos, graphics and stickers with a transparent edge.
- Talking-head clips to layer over new footage in CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
- Branded videos, by uploading a replacement background instead of keeping it transparent.

Background Remover FAQ
Is the background remover free?
It’s free to try. You sign in with an account, and new accounts get 25 free credits, enough for six image cutouts at 4 credits each. After that, plans start at €10 a month for 600 credits, and one-time packs start at €2 for 90.
How is video background removal billed?
By the second: 2 credits per second, with 5 seconds billed at minimum, so a 5-second clip costs 10 credits and a 15-second clip 30. Clips must be 3 to 15 seconds long and up to 50 MB.
Do I need a green screen for video?
No. The video model separates the subject from the background frame by frame. You get a transparent MP4, or the subject placed on a background image you upload.
Which file types does it accept?
Images in JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP and videos in MP4, WebM or MOV, each up to 50 MB. Images come back as transparent PNGs.
Can I use the cutouts for marketplace listings?
Yes. Under the Terms you own what you generate, subject to the model licences, and you’re responsible for having the rights and consents for the photos you upload. Set the PNG on white and check each marketplace’s image rules, which differ from shop to shop.
Does Spicy Studio add a watermark?
No visible watermark is added to your cutout. Like every output, the file carries machine-readable metadata marking it as AI-generated.
What happens to the files I upload?
They are processed by Spicy Studio and the third-party AI providers that run the models, stored temporarily while your result is made and may be kept for service improvement. You keep ownership and can request deletion at any time; the Privacy Policy has the details.
