AI Character Replacement: Put Yourself or a Character in Any Scene

Four ways to place a person into a new scene with AI: templates, reference edits, Face Swap and motion transfer, with photo tips, costs and consent rules.

Same Person, Different World

Character replacement means keeping a specific person, real or fictional, and changing everything around them: you as a 1970s film star, your brand mascot on a beach, your novel's heroine in a rainy alley. The model studies a reference photo of the face and builds a new image or video with that identity in it.

On Spicy Studio there are four ways to do it, and they suit different jobs. Pick by what you're starting from and what you want to end up with.

Method 1: Templates (Fastest)

Best for: a finished look with no prompt writing.

Open the template gallery, choose a Cinematic template, click Use This Template and upload a clear photo of the face. The Image Lab opens with the template's prompt loaded; generate, and you appear in that scene. It costs 18 credits at 1K or 2K, 28 at 4K. After your first generation the template's prompt unlocks, so you can copy and adapt it.

Method 2: Reference Edits in the Image Lab (Most Flexible)

Best for: a scene you describe yourself, or a fictional character you want to keep consistent.

Upload the face as a reference in the Image Lab and write the new scene. Nano Banana 2.1 accepts up to 14 references (12 credits at 2K); GPT Image 2.5 accepts up to 16 at 1 credit each and is the better pick when the image also needs text.

A prompt that works: “The person in the reference photo as a 1970s film star on a movie set, tan suede jacket, warm tungsten light, 35mm film grain. Keep their face, hair and skin tone exactly as in the reference.”

For a recurring fictional character, keep one master face image and reuse it in every prompt; several angles of the same face as extra references help with side views.

Method 3: Face Swap (Keep the Scene, Change the Face)

Best for: an existing image whose pose, outfit and setting you want to keep exactly.

Face Swap takes a source image (the scene, body and pose to keep) and a target face (the identity to put in). It preserves composition, lighting and pose, and costs 12 credits at 2K or 15 at 4K. Use it on your own photos, AI images you generated or images you have the rights to edit.

Method 4: Character Swap (Put a Character Into Motion)

Best for: video, when you want a character image to perform the movement from a video you recorded.

Character Swap transfers motion from a driving video onto a character image. Kling 3.0 Motion Control costs 20 credits per second at Standard or 27 at Pro, with a 3-second minimum, and can keep the original audio from your video. The Kling 3.0 Motion Control guide covers recording a good driving clip.

Reference Photos That Hold the Likeness

One face, well lit. Soft, even light with no harsh shadows across the eyes, and only one person in the frame.

Facing the camera. Slight angles are fine; profile shots and tilted heads lose detail.

Sharp and large enough. If you can't see the eyelashes at full size, the model can't either.

Nothing in the way. No sunglasses, hats pulled low, hands near the face or heavy beauty filters.

Match the target scene. A smiling reference works poorly in a scene that calls for a serious expression; shoot the expression you want.

Consent Comes First

Use your own face, a fictional character you created, or a person who has clearly agreed to be in the image. Never use a real, identifiable person without their consent, never create intimate or sexual images of real people, and never use a likeness to deceive, impersonate or harass. These are hard rules in Spicy Studio's Terms of Service and, in many places, the law.

If an image could be mistaken for a real photo, label it as AI-generated where you publish it. For a broader comparison of creative studios, including how Higgsfield handles similar features, see Spicy Studio vs Higgsfield.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI character replacement?

+

It's placing a specific person or character into a new scene while keeping their identity, using a reference photo of their face. You can do it with templates, reference edits, Face Swap or motion transfer.

Is character replacement the same as face swap?

+

Face swap is one form of it: it keeps an existing scene and changes only the face. Templates and reference edits generate a whole new scene around the person, and Character Swap applies the movement from a video to a character image.

How much does it cost on Spicy Studio?

+

A template generation is 18 credits at 1K or 2K, Face Swap is 12 credits at 2K, a Nano Banana 2.1 reference edit is 12 credits at 2K, and Kling 3.0 Motion Control is 20 credits per second. New accounts get 25 free credits.

Can I use a photo of someone else?

+

Only with their clear consent, and never for intimate or sexual content. Using a real person's likeness without permission breaks Spicy Studio's Terms and can be illegal.

How do I keep a character consistent across many images?

+

Use one master face image as a reference every time, add a few extra angles of the same face, and keep a note of the prompts and models that work.
